A speedo gear? If that is what you are talking about look on the driver side of your trans and there should be a black cable, the speedo cable, going into the side on the top. Unbolt that and pull it out and the gear will be attached to the end, replace that with your new gear.

When you remove the old gear, compare the two and make sure the teeth cut is the same (angle of the gear teeth are in the same direction). There are two different types, one made for the passenger side and one for the driver side. You do not want to mix them up!

Yeah, mixing them, that would be slightly bad.

What color gear is the gear you ordered, the one in the trans and what is your rear gear ratio?

The color will let you know how many teeth the gear has and will allow you do the math to figure out what you need to get your speedo as close as you can.

After I did my t5 swap the 3 speed's old yellow gear, I don't remember how many teeth, worked for me because it worked with my 2.79 rear gear ratio. I know the NPD catalog has the formula and gears so you can figure out if you have what you need or need to order a different one.

I ended up getting a black gear. My gear ratio is 3.50.

My Mustang has a T5 as well and my ratio is 3.50 and I have a pink speedo gear. Mine reads about right. The black gear I think will make it read slower.

your tire diameter will effect this also. I just was looking at a calculator that took all that stuff into account and gave you what gear you needed but i dont remember where i saw it.

depending on what year car the t5 is from will depend on the color gear you need

1986-89 t5 as follows:
gears
3.08 18tooth
3.27 19tooth(pink)
3.55 20 tooth(black)
3.73 21 tooth(red)
4.10 23 tooth(white)

1990-93 t5s
gear ratio
3.08 20 tooth(black)
3.27 21tooth(red)
3.55-4.10s gets a 23tooth(white)

I have the Tremec T5 from Summit. I have 235 60 15 rear tires as well. Maybe that is why the pink gear works for my setup.

If you have a smaller tire then the black gear may be right for your setup. What size tires do you have?
