Automatic Choke Troubles
I am working on a 1966 mustang 289 with a ford 2100 carburetor. I have replaced the 2 choke tubes, choke stove pipe fitting and screen and rebuilt the carburetor. No hot air is getting pulled up to the choke housing. Should I get a vacuum reading if I hook a guage to where the choke tube connects to the choke housing? Is there someting maybe I did wrong rebuilding the carb?
I noticed in the carb kit there were three different gaskets for the choke coil; on was a donut, one was mostly solid with a curved cutout for the choke coil spring arm and had 2 small holes, the third was like the second except had just one larger hole. I used the donut shaped one. Is that correct?

I have since found 2 potential causes of the problem. Despite soaking the carb in carb cleaner the passage from the choke tube into the choke housing appeared to be plugged with black crud. Removed it. Second potential problem was a poor seal where choke tube attaches to the choke housing. Unfortunatly threads on choke housing are bad. Will proably have to get another one.
