Well I did rebuild the carb over the winter and did adjust the dashpot from the instructions that came with the carb kit and when I first did this the car ran fine. The carb is not stock, it is a holey 1940.

I did find another issue just now, when I check the dwell with the dwell meter at idle it will randomly fluctuate from about 38 down to 26 and then back. When the car runs fine it will normally stay at 38.

What would cause the dwell to randomly fluctuate like that?

Thanks again.

I decided to look into the dwell issue a little and started the car and the dwell looks good.

So I took it for a drive and it worked great.

Don't you just love these intermittent problems. How the hell do I diagnose this problem if it comes and goes for no apparent reason at all. I am sure it will return at the worse possible time though if I leave it.

You might think about ditching your points sytem. I have had problems similar to yours mine turned out to be a missing spacer in the dizzy causing the points to "float". Since I replaced the points I can't seem to dial in my timing at both idle and high RPM. A few of the people I have talked to said they had the same problems until they went to electronic ignition. I just ordered an Ignitor III so I guess I'll find out.
