Type A transmission fluid
The motor on my 73 Convertible top says to use Type A transmission fluid only. I have been to several auto parts stores and everyone looks at me like I am crazy. Is this fluid still available or is there a replacement that will not damage my Convertible top motor? The fluid is low and the top is down and will not go back up. I can see air bubbles moving through the lines when I flip the switch to put the top up so I am assuming it is just low. I would be very greatful for any information on this.

If it were me, I would use the approach in the second link to take care of the issue.
While we are talking POWER STEERING, IMO type F will work just fine for your top.
I have researched this pretty heavy for my 55 Lincoln, for both it's power steering and the stock (now replaced) transmission.
Most of the differences between the assorted "types" of transmission fluid amount to friction modifiers that effect how the clutches and bands work in a transmission and will have little or no effect on your top function, sealing, or longevity.
Type A fluid is very, very close to regular old hydrulic fluid used by heavy equipment.
IMO, most any common trans fluid will work, but I (like the article) settled on type F as being what I want to use, although some will argue (and probably rightly) that Dextron is closer to Type A than Type F...
Type F will work fine though.
