Default CID vs Pertronix II (feedback)

aeh .. i meant CDI vs Pertronix II

you always get what you pay for.

With a stock 289 I was perfectly happy with the Pertronix II. way better fuel mileage than stock distributor, easier start etc etc etc ...
but now with this engine it had the same feeling as if I had converted back to stock again. The engine came with ignition box (mallory unilite distributor+Hyfire 4) but didn't put it in as I only got a Rally Pac (half year ago). I can get a tach converter box for 120$, but is that worth it? let me tell you it is.
I put in the new (old) Hyfire system with distributor and it's liuke day and night again. even my lazy numb *** can feel the difference. the engine starts at the second I think about turning the key cold and hot. it seems to have more power throughout the powerrange (even bottom end). I have retarted from 14 down to 12 to get rid of a very slight idle rpm with load jitter and since then I have never fealy a more responsive throttle. it is like 1:1. whatever i do with the pedal, the engine obeys. even in 5th at 30mph a _very_ slight dab and it starts moving straight away

I'm amazed. I'll recurve the distributor on weekend to be sure and then restart my A/F ratio measuring as i'm still rich at WOT.

Anyway. Kalli is happy and is now going to buy that rpm thingie for the Rally pac :-]

CDI basically accomplishes what the newer DIS type setups do, with multiple coils. But a CDI uses 1 coil that recieves a pre charge from a series of capacitors. Obviously it's still using a distributor, but the goal is the same, providing a strong high energy spark to each cylinder. Better ignition means better power.

i thought it might better, thought i won't 'feel' it. but boy that is a difference alright. I can't wait for the weekend to get the tuning finished. very excited.
