just bought a 1968 mustang!!!!
Hey guys and gals, as you can see in my sig. I own a 5.0 mustang and I have been on mustang forums for a while now. Well I was driving along and I saw a 1968 mustang sittin on the side of the road (I could already tell it was a project) and I stopped and asked if it was for sale and he told me to go take a look at it and whatever I think it's worth that's how much he'd sell it to me for. So I go and look at it and it's got a straight six in it, it's a 3 speed automatic, it needs some major body work (rear and front quarters are rusted and dented to hell) and we couldn't get the doors open (I think that they just need a little bit of elbow grease to get them open). All of the body lines were all good and everything. So I go back and offer him $100 for it and he told me $75 and I just couldn't pass it up. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow, and I'll post some pictures also if it isn't too late by the time I get off of work. BTW I've got a 302 with an edlebrock rpm intake and an edlebrock carb (not sure right now what size) and I'm going to throw that in there. It doesn't run btw. But I picked it up with the intentions of a project car and that's exactly what I got. I'm going to start taking it apart tomorrow, the interior on it is fine but I think I might strip it out anyways to check out the floor pans. But anyways, what should I do first and what are some good sites, besides Ebay, to find parts? What years are the same, 67-68 I think. Help me out guys!
you might talk to uwti, he has some striking pictures of before and after for his shelby. This thread: https://mustangforums.com/m_594247/tm.htm
Take your time and do a good job, it can look awesome.

'68 is a great looking year. There are some good vendors sponsoring this site, and probably one of the best catalogs is NPD (National Parts Depot). The amount of information available is amazing. I think you could build a complete car from some of these catalogs.
Good luck with it.
Good luck with it.

At the top of the page is a good post on parts for classics:

And yes, 67-68 are the closest as far as body styles.

The link that Markstang1969 posted is a great source for parts, you may also try and see if theres anything local so you dont have to pay as much for shipping(great way to save money).
I own a 68 myself and between the 68 and 69 those are my favorite body styles, and $75 is a great price for a project car. You'll defienetely be throwing a lot of money to fix it but like nualln said, take your time and it'll look great!
best of luck, and post on here frequently on progress and/or any questions.

You guys have been great help so far. Okay guys, how hard is it going to be to do this 302 swap? I beleive the tranny in it right now is a C4, correct me if I'm wrong, will this be able to handle the output of the 302? How about the rear end, is it a 7.5, 8.8, or a 9 incher? How much is it going to cost me to get the rear quarter replaced, sometimes I wish mustangs weren't uni-bodies lol.
Stock, it should be a C4. As far as a 302 swap and the rear end, thats beyond my knowledge.
The quarter panel however, i can help with. If you're going to be replacing the entire quarter panel you're going to have to get the spot welds out around the door, then the seams will have to be cut through at the quarter pillar. If you plann on doing all of that, plan on working a long time to replace it, the entire quarter panel, can be found anywhere from $250-$350.
If youre just looking to replace various areas of the quater panel, repair panels can be bought for way cheaper depending on what area. anywhere from $20-$80 for repair panels.

This may help you! When we media blasted my car down we found both quarters were rotten at the bottoms, we did a full quarter replacement, my body guy charged me about $900 extra including the materials. I hope this helps.
By the way the C4 transmission will work with your 302 just fine.

You- lucky devil you. $75 is a steal for a complete car. That C4 will handle a 302 swap, but you are going to have to upgrade the rear to an 8" at least, and the front suspension will need some beefing up. The first thing I would do, would be to upgrade the front suspension to include disk brakes, then replace the rear, then worry about the body and interior.
