Default Suspension is DONE!

So got it all finished up and aligned today. Definitely rides a lot nicer than before. 1" a arm drop, 620 springs, 5 leafs(both 1" drop) and KYB Gas A Justs with poly bushings in everything. It's actually not nearly as stiff a ride as I was expecting, handles well and rides firm, but not what I'd consider a really stiff ride. 1.125/0.75 sway bars though, so no body roll. The only problem is the front sits lower now and the headers drag over stuff(more than they did). I suppose at some point I may pop for a set of Doug's LT's, they're supposed to fit way better and have more ground clearance than Hookers.

Where did you buy your parts from?? I'm looking to upgrade my suspension too.

How stiff are the 5 leafs? A lot of people say they regret it and would go to 4.5 leafs. I'm debating between the two rite now. I like a stiffer ride as long as its not bumpy as hell.

Laurel Mountain.

And it's not really that stiff, I don't think. When it hits a nasty bump it's a tad rough, but most of the other bumps it's fine, and rides firm. But I also have aftermarket seats which isolate me better from the chassis...so it might be worse with factory seats.

i guess your very happy with that now :-)
I have 5 leaf mid eyes and they are a bit too firm in the back. But that could be due to the gas-a-justs as well. and the fact that I made my own spring plates and the angle of the shocks is wrong. I'm putting in new spring plates (the things that attach shocks to spring in back) and will see from there. If that causes it to soften a bit then I'm good, otherwise I'd say I should have done the 4.5 version as well.
I'll report back.

Interesting...why did you go through Laurel Mountain Mustang? Do they make parts or are they a distributor?

Good to hear! How are the street manners with the rear and thick front sway bars?

Laurel Mountain I think is primarily a distributor, but they have their parts made by other places. They do have a resto shop too, and they are quite knowledgeable. Very affordable though, lots of options, different packages etc.

And the street manners are good with the sway bars. It's going to ride harsher with bigger sway bars, just by virtue of less suspension independence. But the car has almost no body roll. It seems to take bumps and holes in the road pretty well, doesn't jar or anything, but like I said, it might also be a result of the seats I have. I noticed when I put them in the ride was a lot more comfortable. The suspension balance seems pretty good too.

I've got basically the same exact setup as you, only it's the Grab-a-Trak "Street Heat" kit from Mustangs Plus.

5 Leaf mid eye, KYB Gas a Just's, 620 front coils, 1" and 3/4" sway bars. Mine rides a little rough over bumpy roades, but handles very good.

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of the stance now. Probably looks pretty good. The headers? Yeah, they'll do that. Back in the olden days I had headers put on my 69 351 and when I went to back it out of the shop bay it hung up on the hydraulic lift.
