need some help
I have a 65 mustang and building a 331 stroker. when sealing the intake with felpro gasket other than sealer on the ends do you put sealer on the two main gaskets or just leave it alone. Its been awhile since i have built one so i am not sure but i think not and what torque for the alum. intake. I herd 25 but they say it will leak some where down the road..
To be safe I put a thin layer of sealer on the intake gaskets just around the water passages. I don't use the cork gaskets on the front and rear of the intake where it seals to the block, just use a good bead of RTV on there and it will seal very nice. The cork gaskets have been known to keep the intake from sealing well on the head. They will hold the intake up and not allow from proper seal. Allow the RTV to cure before starting the engine. I torque aluminum intake to the same factory specs as cast iron but I always go back and check the torque after running the engine for awhile.
I just swapped the intake manifold on my 289 a couple weeks ago. I used the 1250 Felpro gaskets and high temp RTV on the ends and so far its working great. I didn't use any sealant on the actual gaskets and I don't have an issue. I was recommended it was only really necessary to use sealant on the gaskets if the mating surface on the block was pitted. The torque is going to be anywhere between 18-25lbs, you manifold should come with instructions with the torque pattern and specific specs.

Going off their help it went well and still going good. No leaks of any sort.
And cork bad, use no cork.
