Default C4 problem

Having a bit of an issue with my 289 C4. 1st gear works fine, but after it goes into second gear, it slips out and goes into neutral about 5 seconds later. You can back it down into first when this happens and it goes in fine, doesn't slip, but has same issue once you put it back in drive and it shifts again.

Before this happened, it would also not shift at the right point on some occasions, would hold 1st and 2nd a bit long. Seemed to shift hard some times also, even into reverse.

I have had the car about a year, haven't touched or have any history on trans.

Fluid level is fine, doesn't smell burnt and doesn't leak.
Thanks in advance from this newbie.

Could be a bad accumulator. Probably time to pull it and have someone go through it for you.

You would have to install an aftermarket shift kit from the likes of B&M, TCI, Transgo, etc. in the valve body. If you don't have a lot of wrenching experience, I suggest that you have a shop do it. I would also only recommend this if your transmission is in good condition. Also something a competent transmission shop could tell you.

Thanks guys, was hoping it was something I could do myself, but it looks like I am better off having an expert handle it. I will post something once I find out what was causing the issue.
