Hi all,

I sold my weiand intake, the edelbrock carb. so the only logical thing to do is to throw the money back at the car.

I currently have pertronix distributor (Ignitor II) and holley 570cfm carb

so what should I get next:
MSD ignition box (6al) and distributor or
Quickfuel mechanical secondary 650cfm carb with choke

Any opinions?

 

i'd do the carb, then go with a crane hi-6 box and one of their awesome dizzys (as long as you can still find them, its a damn shame they went out of business)

 

Summit may still have some left. I have the Hi-6 and Procurve dizzy from Crane, works great. You could also try getting ahold of S&S Cycle in Florida directly, they're restarted Crane with most of the original guys and equipment, and are trying to get their support for ignition back up and running.

I have switched carbs on sbf's and chebys but waking up the ignition to burn the fuel was the best thing i ever did for my cars. If you did go with the carb 1st you would notice a huge improvement once you add the msd goods later.

My thoughts it will make what you have better now.

 

on a sidenote to the MSD/crane/Mallory discussion. I could always get the mallory 6AL box. that shoiuld fit the mallory unilite distributor I used with the other box (Hyfire4) box that died. would be less than 200$ and save me buying distributor.

I have a mallory uni-lite on my old 289.
If i remember i had to run a ballast on the hot wire for that.
IDK how that would work on a msd 6

 

I would go MSD and keep trying to tweak the Holley. You will probably get tired and go to Quick Fuel later, but I love my MSD setup and it is really trouble free. When my car was busting rockers and running dead rich, it kept the plugs firing and got me home on basically 3 cylinders. I am a fan. Before you get a Quick Fuel, you might call Pro Systems. They impressed me when I talk with them. As it turned out, I will probably go that route at some point down the road, but my HP is doing fine for now.

 

well it looks like crane is back in business, which is awesome. i haven't used their distributors but the features they have for the SBF models are amazing and nobody else makes anything like it that i know of.

 

Pro Systems is good too.
