Default Cam ?

Okay so in my last thread I got some good feedback about my shaky starts. I adjusted the carb a little and it injects better. Now I need to get my plugs to fire in the correct order. I am not sure if the machine shop put in a mod cam or stock cam. I heard the mod is a 351 firing order and the stock is 302. How do I determine this without taking apart the engine? Would taking off 1 valve cover and watching for them to pop up work? Like crank it manually and write down the order it goes in. Then after I do that set it to tdc or around there considering I do not have any timing marks, they were painted over, and then try and start the engine??

Thanks again guys. Huge help.

removing the valve cover would be the only way seeing as you dont know if they put a 351 cam. but i didnt know they could swap a different firing order cam. as for painted over timing marks, get a piece of sand paper and sand it off.

That's the way to do it. Watch for the intakes to open. Didn't know your marks were painted over. I thought they were MIA. I would take a pocket screwdriver and scratch the paint off the marks (it just shows up better)

Yes I thought they were MIA as well but the shop said they probably just painted over them. So I need to look for them now... Doesn't putting in a new cam change the firing order?? That is what I thought. For instance if it is a 351 cam wouldn't the engine have a 351 firing order? Like firing order dependent on cam?
