Ahh! I used to have a 76 Cobra II that had side exhaust... Sounded friggin AWESOME when you went thru a tunnel!

Me personally, I say do it if it looks right to you. It's your car.

You're probably going with some kind of cherry bomb or glass pack muffler if your considering side exhaust right? So try the side thing first. It's cheaper (your only talking about a single bend pipe about 2 1/2 -3' long). If you don't like it, your out the $25.00 for the mufflers, and whatever it cost for the two bent pipes.

My old roomate had a 5.0 with a bolja (spelling) exhaust system on it, it sounded mean like no other. If your looking for something deeper sounding go with the flow....Flomaster I think are the best (I am really brand loyal anyone else notice that? ) I have a big 70 series on my truck and 40 series on my stang and ranger I like em, they sound good at idle and don't produce to much noise till ya put the hammer down. If you go out the side, do it at a 45 degree angle, like Shelby did...

When I first had my '67 it had side exhaust with 32" glasspacks. I had them tack some chrome tips to the end and it was great for awhile.

Driving home one night (back when I had a lot of problems with the car) and it backfired. I blew flames out the drivers side exhaust and shot the tip off the end. Could see it all in the side mirror, was awesome! A bit disaterous for the exhaust/vehile but awesome none the less.

I've got a more normal exhaust now, out the rear but still with glasspacks (smaller though). Doesn't deafen me and sounds great.

Though I miss my side pipes.

is there no way to run a two-chamber flowmaster to the side exhaust?...if i do it i will do it at a 45 angle just like shelby did considering a already have some other shelby mods on the car. glasspacks to me are more annoying than good-sounding. price dont matter when it comes to this car.

Default Muffler with in and out on same end

If you can find a nice muffler with the input and output on the same end, you could run the side exhaust pretty easy. Just mount the muffler up under the rear seats. Might have to insulate or move the P brake cables, but that would be it. Plenty of room.
The only down side to side exhaust is on long trips. the droning can be kind of numbing. You get the same thing with megaphones coming straight out the back.

BTW: Nice to see someone else do a 6 to V8 swap. Makes a lot of sense to me.
Post some shots when you get a chance. maybe some from underneath while they do the exhaust.

I love this site, I like the fact they have sound on it. The 70 series big block (2001 GMC 2500 HD
6.0L (stock) Mufflers #530513 Kit #17328) sounds just like my ram
