anyone have any good recommendations for a new 289 mine is bad and i'm in desperate need of a new 289 while i can rebuild the one i have now and take the time to build it right, so any help would be awesome thanks in advance

does it have to be a 289? 302s are really easy to find and a direct fit if you have a 6-bolt bell housing. you can turn a 302 into a 289 if you want but the casting numbers won't match. the only difference is the stroke.

well the current motors a 289 and its a daily driver so i was thinking of getting a new 289 just to keep the car on the road and then take the ORIGINAL 289 and build it up and not have to rush it to get it back on the road.. so i guess i want a crate motor at a good deal.. or even a stock replacement rebuild

you can get a 302 from a junkyard. out of just about any ford. for pretty cheap then swap your front accessories, intake, carb and dizzy (and possibly swap dizzy gear if you get a roller motor) and you have a good temp engine while you build your 289. and it would be a lot cheaper then a crate motor or stock replacement.

well the rings are shot, so low compression and a bent valve.
and i kno as soon as i pull it apart to replace the rings im gunna find more problems,
the previous owner just didnt care, this thing is pieced together, thermostat housing is cracked so he used rtv glued it back together, the wiring is jankie, looks like someone didn't know what they were doing, the whole thing is just bad news, so i wanna fix everything correctly and have a solid daily driver thats fun to drive...
idk its just a shotty job and i wanna take it all apart and do what i want to it and have time to do it, not rush putting it back together cus the car is a daily driver,

If you watch Craigs List you can find a running 302 for sale, I see them on there about once a week to 10 days...if you just want something to spin the tires for now then that would be your best bet.

i think thats what im gunna do, thanks everyone. im gunna try and track down something, see what i can find, if i find a cleap 302 maybe ill just rebuild that up as apposed to a 289 and just keep the 289 cuz its the original,
