Default trunk weatherstripping

I got some new weatherstripping for my trunk and was going to install it. It seems different than the original weatherstripping I had on there. There is a split in the weatherstripping and I'm wondering if the weatherstripping should be installed so that split fits around the lip of the trunk? I have it on there now with the flat side glued exactly where the old weatherstripping was but it is extremely difficult to shut the trunk. Do I need to orient the weatherstripping different so the lip goes into the split and hopefully the trunk will close easier? Thanks!

Some of the new weatherstriping is much stiffer than the origianl and will not allow the trunk to close correctly. Sounds like you have it on right.

I agree, I repaced mine and have the split down around the locking mechanism I have to shut it two or three times to get it to close. It will set up in time. I hope, but regardless it has a tight seal. LOL

Thanks for the responses, but at least you're right -- I have a really tight seal now!
