Starter or solenoid bad?
Hi Everyone,
Although I will probably replace both of these, I think either the solenoid or starter is out. Yesterday morning I tried to crank it and it clicked some and then turned over fine after numerous tries. Sometimes I would hardly hear a thing turning the key. Prior when I cranked it, it seemed to turn over slow the first time and then fire up. The battery is obviously good if it suddenly cranked after trying. Then when trying to leave work yesterday, nothing worked.
Any guesses on which it would be? Today I went ahead and bought a solenoid since it was so cheap but have not yet put it on. I'll replace it tomorrow morning and see. And go from there if I need to replace the starter.
Thanks!
Warren

if neither of those solve the problem, i recently replaced the ignition (actual key hole in dash) which solved my starting issue after replacing solenoid (replaced starter recently prior).
when i cranked it it was like there was no battery hooked up, no click, no crank, nothing. fyi.

why don't you troubleshootinstead of guessing.
car in neutral/park (whatever you use for starting, noi idea if you have manual or auto), ignition on.
get a jumperwire. use only one cable of the two.
bridge with that cable from the big connector left (battery side) directly to the big connector on the right (starter side). if the issue is exactly the same the problem si not your selonoid

^^^ I was thinking the same thing. Hate to see people just throw parts at something. It could be something as simple as a neutral switch adjustment. Cross a screwdriver to the s term....make sure the signal wire is getting power...you can throw parts at it for a week and not fix it.
