Unhappy decisions decisions decisions

ok.....im a 23yr old mustang enthusiast...a mustang was my first car, im on my 6th, and itll be my last car! but heres my prob..........i LOVE the way the classic cars look and sound.....but im rather disappointed in the performance. i fully understand that back in the day they were mean machines but as of now, well they barley keep up with civics.......(im exaggerating). what i mean to say is the car i owned before my 67 coupe was a 2004 svt cobra......560hp.....ungodly fast! now im not looking for that much power but i want like 350-400. this car is my daily driver and runs beautify with the 289 but is lacking the power i want. i original wanted to put a 4.6 modular motor in the 67 but have learned that it is a fairly large adventer (although very cool) so ive decided to go with either a 302 or a 351w....wich engine is easier to get to that power mark? also im used to 6k rpms....is there anyway to get the 302s and 351 from there 3500 rpm to higher marks? is it worth it? sorry for all the questions but the oldest mustang ive ever owned was a 96...so needless to say i dont know much about the 5.0 engines and such....sad i know
thanks for the help!

get a stroker www.fordstrokers.com get woody to build you a 427cubic inch(351w based motor) and youll have all the power you will need.... woody is also a member on here

as for making more power the 351 has more cubemore powah plus the block is stronger etc....

pick up a 390 or 460 out of an older ford truck. you can hit around 400 fairly easy. 302 is small potatoes if your used to a cobra

i guess that would depend how you set it up, and how you drive it. i would say not over 12mpg. you cant have it all though, power or economy

Not neccessarily true. It's all in who builds it, how it's built, and how you drive it. Like rmodel said, contact Woody. He knows his **** and anything he builds you will be reliable.

bottom line is...65-68s are small cars. u dont need much engine to get them to haul. a 347 stroker will steep gears and sticky tires will embarrass most people on the streets. (except my neighbor who owns one of these )

a stock 4 barrel 351w is around 290 hp and 330 ft/lbs or torque or something like that. All you would have to do is a fairly stock rebuild to get the numbers you want. Put in a slightly rougher cam, new intake and good exhaust and you can probably hit 350hp with no problem. From there, if you get some aluminum heads and do the same things you'll see even greater results.

plus, a 351w will still fit in a 67 engine bay without an issue and it is still a small block. On top of that the 67's are light cars (especially the coupes) as they are so it will pull hard, especially with the right tranny and rear end gears.

Oh and keep in mind you could use a 351 cleveland as well, but that's personally preference.
