Car Jack ratings?
Hello I have a car jack rated at 3000lbs. Is this good to use on my car and other? I'm not sure if the rating of the jack is suppose to be more than the weight of the car itself or not since you are only supporting one side of the car and only for a limited amount of time till jack stands are under it.
P.S. my fail at posting in the wrong section. Seriously lol I am sorry

3000 should be more than enough since it is really only holidng half of the front or back of the car. Mine are rated at 4000 pounds but that is because I like the jacks with the wider bases not because of the extra weight rating. Probably the most important thing about jacks is making sure they are on a good solid lifting point under the car.
Hydraulic jacks have an internal pressure relief to prevent you from lifting more than the rating of the jack. Most of them will not quite lift the published rating. The higher rated jacks are usually more stable, but you still need jackstands.
Also you are better off with these type of jack stands.
