Default RIde Height Help

Hey all, been awhile since I've been on but need some help. I've done a lot of work to my (wifes) 68 convertible including complete new rear suspension. We had the original springs and it sat pretty low, put someone in the back seat and it was really low. I put in new leafs, bushings, shackles, shocks etc... These were supposedly direct replacement for OEM. When all done my ride height basically is the same. It doesnt sag as much though with someone in the back seat. I'm running 14" styled steels.

I know that generally these lower performance Mustangs (289 2 barrel) didnt have stiff rear suspensions and tended to sit lower in the back. I'd like to get it up though a couple of inches. Would longer shackles be the way to go?

Thanks,

Craig

longer shackles as ive been told on here are NOT the way to go. you will need new leaf springs as the ones you have apparently have sagged.

try a local shop that works with leaf springs to either make you some that are more heavy duty or maybe put another leaf in if that's possible. i recently replaced my leaf springs as well but i like mine low.. kind of out there but maybe consider air shocks.. not my style but might could work for you if you dont want to go the leaf spring route

I have longer shackels and it does work, but is the old school way of doing it. I don't have any problems associated with it. It really is better to not use them though. If you use them make sure to cut off the excess. Thats what I did and painted them black. I am looking at some springs from Laurel Mountain Mustang that give 1-2 inches of lift for the rear. These are the only ones I could find that will lift the car up a little.

If you get siffer springs do not get the 5 leaf, it will ride too rough. The same is true if you add a leaf. I would not recommend that.

Air shocks are worse than the extended shackles. The shock mounts are not designed to support weight and the air shocks can bust through into the trunk. DO NOT use air shocks.

Ya I'm surprised it did raise the rear end. My rear leafs were worn and as soon as I replaced with stock replacments it was fine. Ya I would try haveing them rearched.

Thats quite odd that they are low if they are oem replacement. What are they? 4leaf top eye? Best ride and height seem to be 4.5mid eye from wHat I read here. I have 5mid eye and that's a bit stiff. Check what Andrew said, try to avoid shackles. They,re ugly
