Thumbs down Buying Brake Lines

Had no idea this would be so confusing...

I need to buy brake lines, but because my car is not original it's a pain in the rear. It's a 1966 6-cylinder, with front discs, a dual Master Cylinder, and rear drums. Though, I might change the rear to discs if the $$ appears, and once I tackle all these other things. Eh that's another topic...

So which brake lines do I get?

Thanks

What brakes do you have? You could probably just get a good replacement set from NAPA or someplace like that.

The only thing that worries me is that the replacement sets will likely be set up for a single barrel master cylinder, whereas some previous owner retrofitted mine with a dual MC.

Side note - can you buy pre-bent brake lines from NAPA? That would be awesome...I can't find anyone else that does.

I bought brakes lines from Classictube.com, stainless steel too, was around $225 but they were stainless and prebent. My only problem is I did the SSBC swap around all 4 wheels (which I let them know) and at the time they did not know SSBC had a specific thread count in the screw in area on the calipers and hoses that comes with the SSBC's kit... so they put the wrong nuts on the brake lines they sent me. I made them redo them. It literally took about a month and a half and meanwhile my car's just sittin. They literally thought I WAS THE ONE CRAZY when I said they don't fit, that they do thousands of them with out a problem. They even sell the damn SSBC kits! So I did a three way call with them and got SSBC on the phone, SSBC told them I was right and Classictube rebent them for me. THEN the tubes were too long w/ my dual bowl MC to the proportioning valve hitting the fire wall, they thought I WAS CRAZY AGAIN! SO I had to take pictures, with a ruler next to all the screw in holes to the block and proportioning valves. I had to cut the stainless line, shrink it down and tape it, uninstall it, take more pictures of what I need with the new length taped, then told me I had to buy the piece I cut, EVEN THOUGH IT WOULD NEVER FIT MY CAR OR ANY OTHER CAR. I was extremely upset with the whole process, very frustrated and agrevated that they would say I am crazy, that they do thousands of kits with out problems when all along they were wrong. My patience was really tested. WOULD NOT SUGGEST USING THEM.

Oh yea, I remember hearing about those a while back. That would ease the process.

Advanced Auto Parts also has line. They used to sell the steel ones but went towards a green looking line made out of a different material that will never rust or break down. They are hand bendable and affordable. Could maybe do you whole car for well under $75.

Why do you need brake lines? I have found if you really want to replace them, get the straight raw brake lines from the parts store and bend them/flare them as needed. That is the only way to really get exactly what you need since your system is modified.

You may have to make some of your own home made or custom lines for the MC.
