Default Need Help Again!!

I'm sorry for asking so many questions these couple of days, but my car has alot of problems.

As i was working on my 67 mustang today i realized that the fan was throwing air toward the engine, not toward the radiator. I know it sounds stupid but , is that suppose to happen. Can i just take off the fan and turn it the other way so that it will be facing the radiator?
Is this the reason that my radiator overheated so much?

Please Help Me!!!

It's working correctly. It should pull air through the radiator and back at the motor.

Do you have a shroud on the rad??? It will always run hotter at idle, there is NO air really going across the fins to help cool the water/fluid.

No I do not have a shroud, Is that why my radiator/engine is running really hot?

I'm not planning on keeping this engine, but while i gather up the money for my engine swap, I want to use this engine to take my car to mechanics and body shops and other things. I want to use as little money as i can to keep this engine running smooth. So any advice will be appreciated.

Hi,
Air is supposed to be pulled from the radiator towards the engine to keep it cool. You might have a radiator that is full of crud and needs flushing.

My dad told me that he knows how to flush it, but i'm not sure he does.

How do you flush a radiator?

Un-hook both hoses, AFTER you open the petcock to drain the fluid. It's the nipple down on the bottom of the rad, next to the tranny lines. Lefty loosey, righty tighty. After you disconnect both the top and bottom hoses, replace them. Get a bottom hose with a spring inside, yours is probably collasping in on itself. Meanwhile, put the garden hose in the rad, turn it on, and go buy the hoses. By the time you return, it should be flushed good enough. Also while you are at the parts store, get a bottle of Water Wetter. Tighten the drain, connect NEW hoses, re-fill to about an inch below the rim, and take it for a drive about 20 miles to see how it reads. If you get air in the system, wait till it starts moving thru the system, then loosen a sensor on the intake to let out the air. You will see fluid when the system is good to go. One last thing, make sure your cap is a 13lb, and it seal tight. Good luck.

Take it to a radiator shop and have it professionally rodded out. That is where they take the top and bottom tanks off and shove a rod through the core to clean it out the right way. Unless you flush it out every two years, it will collect all kinds of crap and mineral deposits until no cooling takes place.

Cheers….[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

A shroud is a must, unless you drive only in cold weather...
