ahhaaaa! thx for that piece of info. I'll check when home. it really seems like mine doesn't have any kind of advance adjustment. I bought a used crane this week for 50$ which never worked for the seller. I just hope they did a stuipid mistake like running 8V to it or so :-) and if I wasted my money I can use a few bits as spare maybe

Either way, 14-16* initial timing falls in line with what you have. The problem is with that much initial and a fixed curve dizzy, you are probably going to be at 38-40* total timing which may be too much to not have detonation at WOT. If you are not going to change out your dizzy and do not have the Mallory Y version, I would set the total timing at what your engine likes without detonation and the initial timing will be what it is. Does that make sense?
