Default Control Valve

what are the advantages of a 5/16" pressure port vs. 1/4"?

It is bigger so more fluid goes through. Are you talking about power steering?

They changed it because the smaller 1/4" fittings were easily rounded off or the threads in the housing were stripped.

The early valves had a check valve/restrictor in the return port and the later valves had a restrictor in the pressure port with a hole smaller than pencil lead, so flow at the port was not the problem.

I think the 1/4" fittings were typical for 1960 - 1967. Would there be any complications in going for a 5/16" on my 67?

I was going to send in my core and go for a rebuilt one with the a 5/16" pressure port. And of course a new set of hoses http://www.mustangsunlimited.com/ite...sp?T1=PSHK6+01

Go ahead and get the 1968-1970 valve with the bigger pressure port. Then get a 1968 pressure hose and it will all work.

Don't use a 1967 hose with an adapter because the extra length of the adapter will throw off the fit of the metal part of the hose and cause interference with the ball stud and pitman arm.
