Question about new Headers
Hi there I am new to the forums so let me first introduce myself.
My names Drew and i got a 65 coupe. I bought it a few years back its completely finished and now. I just enjoy playing with it a little bit every now and then. My new thing is trying to find a nice set of headers.
Currently i have rusted manifolds (surface rust only).
Now to my question
I don't know exactly what to buy and whats necessary this is just a cruiser here and there in the summer for the most part so i don't need any high temperature racing headers. I simply don't want them to rust away a thousand miles later. So i obviously release stainless steel doesn't rust but what kind of coating do i need so i can avoid a quick rusting problem. I've seen ceramic for the most part. Is that acceptable. Please help
Thank you,
Drew

I have the Hedman elite long tube ceramics and like them a lot. Had them a couple years and they seem to be holding up fine. They do hang low which could be a big problem for daily driver. Since I just drive summers etc as you mentioned, I have no problem recommending them.
If rust is your biggest concern then it's coated or stainless for you. Stainless isn't the cheapest, if you use the good stuff. 409 will still rust, and isn't a very good corrosion resistant stainless. 304 is better for that. But I think a steel header that's coats would be fine for you. Most importantly for me, is it's sealing. Try not to get anything with a thin flange. If you can afford it, get a coated header with a 3/8 flange.
Coating your current manifolds is an option also.
The biggest names that come to mind are JBA and FPA performance. I try to always buy US when I can. JBA doesn't fall into that category so I call Stan when I can here.

There are plenty of coated headers available. Since you are going to bother with the time and expense of this product, you might as well reap some street performance benefits. The way to do this is to use full length or tri-y small tube headers.
There are some stainless or coated tri y's available. Since your car is stock, this is the headers that were most commonly used when your car was new, so they would be a period modification. The tri y design offers a very good low and midrange power gain for your street driving.
I am in the market for tri y's myself and I've seen plenty of them on ebay. Just search ebay for 289 ford headers and see what you get.
