Ok, first off sorry for being all over the place these last few days! for those of you who have seen my previous posts, I am not going with the 351w with FMX. I'm just going to keep the plan of putting in the 289 i already have. I was able to turn the engine by hand today so I'm assuming thats a good sign when it comes to the internals.

now for why I'm creating a thread:
my original plan was to keep the 3speed auto c4 for financial reasons. Now I'm saying F*** it! if I am going through all of this trouble (really my pleasure) to convert to a 8cyl 289, I better get my moneys/times worth! I want a 3 or 4 speed manual, for the sporty feel.

I'm thinking t-10 or toploader.... any suggestions....?

and thanks.

I agree 5 speed is the way to go. You can do is cheaper than a toploader, usually. Top loaders are expensive now a days. Do not go with a 3 speed. You will not be happy. I can't tell you how many times I drove my dad's 3 speed and put it into reverse to go forward at the stop light. They just suck. You can get them dirt cheap though. Saw one on Craig's list locally and the guy wanted $600. I about fell out laughing!! 3 speeds are worth $100 or less.

yes

Look for a world class (WC) not a non world class (nwc) one from a v8 would be best and 1990 to 93 would be best but 83 (i think) to 93 will work.

That is a killer deal. The questions I have are; What year is the trans? They didn't start the World Class T-5 until 86. He says he has pedals but for what year? You will need pedals to fit a 67/68. He says he has a fly wheel but for what? You will need the 28oz imbalance not the 50oz that came with the 5.0 motor. Trans cross member, what year will it fit? You need 67/68 only. The drive shaft may or may not work with your year, you need to figure that out too.

If it came from a 67/68 you will really be in luck. If it is from a different year there are still a bunch of things that will help. The big thing is the trans needs to be from an 86 to 93 to make things really easy. If there is a tag on the trans have him give you those numbers and we can look up and see what it came from.

will a t5 last behind a 351w? they're only good for 265 lb/ft stock (300 lb/ft for the 90-93).
