Default 73 mach1, 5 speed?

Hi i have a 73 mach 1, came with a 302 engine and a 3 speed manual trans. Im building the motor to a 347 stroker and im trying to find a 5 speed to put behind it. Any tips on which tranny would work best?

Depending on what #'s it makes a T5 might be acceptable, but it will probably fail. My suggestion would be a TKO 600, or a T45.

ok thanks! but i was wondering if i could get one from a salvage yard out of a foxbody or early 90's mustang would they bolt up to my bell housing? The motor should be between 500 and 600 at the flywheel when its done. Or should i just order a brand new one from summit?

Is the 302 you have from the early 70s or is it a newer 302?

I just checked online and according to other sites you can hook one up to a 90s 5 speed transmission. I am sure if you do a search here, someone has already tried whatever you are talking about. Why not an AOD?

Because a T5 and an AOD would not hold up to a 500 horse motor.

Ok thanks! I will have to look around. But ya its the original 73 block. What mods would I have to do? Change the lenght of drive shaft?

Would a tko bolt up to my early 70's bell housing? I'm leaning towards getting a t5 and and see if that will work. If it fails then I will upgrade. Cause a tko is like 2,195!
