I watched the video and kept trying to hear what the engine was doing but that exhaust leak kept messing with me....

First I would make sure you are running on all cylinders, are all of the header tubes getting hot?

I have one of those "aim and shoot" thermometers, these are helpful in finding weak cylinders.

Last time I had one running like that I had an intake valve just a touch too tight. This would cause vac fluctuations eh?

i think that's exactly my problem, the flow streaming back at me. the temperature at header is a good idea. my gauge is at buddies place now though.

thx for the article, but no longer needed.
I changed the carb back to the 570 street avenger. All stock jets, cam, PV. everything.
vacuum is still fluctuating, but occasionally (maybe once a minute bolt steady for a few seconds). i might need to doublecheck my lifter adjustment. However it's idling at 750, no cutting out and is perfectly streetable. no hesitation. it's lacking a bit of the power I had with the Demon, but honestly don't care at the moment. I need a car I can rely on and it's looking good. going for a long spin (150mile return) tomorrow.
The A/F seems perfect. 14.5 at cruise and 12.5 at WOT. so i told myself to **** off and just enjoy the good wether :-)

I'll get back to it some other time, but for now I'll drive!

well while I was writing the above I thought I have an allen key for rocker covers and a rachet for the rocker nuts and an hour worth of sunshine left.

So I just went out and re-adjusted them with the engine running (the way I usually do it, not static like last time).
I left my gauge at buddies place so I have no idea if it helped, but at least I feel better and know it's done right ;-)

I thought I posted a response last night, but it did not show up.

I think that the carb changed indicated the other carb to be jetted too lean.

The more I thnk about it, the vac gauge fluctuation has to either be a valve problem, which hopefully your readjustment took care of, or a leaking intake runner.

Hopefully when you put the gauge back on the fluctuation will have disappeared.

Good luck and keep us posted.

i hope so as well, buddy forgot to bring the gauge this morning. So I won't know til wednesday or so. good news is she's driving perfectly fine. no misbehaving. 200 miles today, not a slight problem. It was so good that the only thing annoying me was the exhaust leak I'll take care of soon. if i worry about such things, the rest can't be bad *g*

i'll keep you posted. Made a video in tunnel, will upload now
