Hey guys I want to get an idea of how much you think a fair price for a shop to replace floor pans in a 67 coupe would be. Just want to make sure I'm not going to over pay! For full pans and maybe some torque boxes. Thanks!

I just paid a buddy 200.00 to replace only the two front pans in the fastback and I thought that was a screaming deal. As far as overpaying I'd be more concerned with finding a reputable shop because the bitterness of a crappy job lasts a lot longer than the sweetness of a great price.

Yeah you are absolutely right. Also wanted to know what average prices were so I could be more skeptical of a really good price

Does the shop have to disassemble the car? Remove seats sills, fuel line, etc.? Or, will you deliver a clean body to the shop? While you are having someone do that , are you going to also do the firewall and fresh air intake system? If the floors are that bad, probably the cowl is leaking like a sieve.

No I would tear it down before I took it to them. Remove all the interior. Fuel lines and anything else that would be needed. Firewall is in good shape but the fresh are system is bad. So the cowl would have to be replaced as well. But probably not till down the road.

If I were you and had the car already disassembled, I would have the shop do ALL of the metal work that you know needs done, including the cowl and any other rusted areas.

The only way to assess a fair price is to ask for an estimate of total hours required multiplied by their hourly rate. This will require a LOT of work that few are capable of doing right themselves. Also, if your shop is primarily a collision shop, be prepared to wait a while for the work to be done because you will likely be a lower priority than the insurance companies that pay their bills. Not a bad thing but reality.

Restoring a car correctly is expensive and the metal-work that you describe will be the foundation of the finished product. Don't cut corners

Mach is right. The cowl job is much more difficult and time consuming if done correctly. It would require a second disassembly and the removal of a couple hundred spot welds if I remember right. But if left undone will haunt yo with leaks and eventual rust of the floor pans again.

Yeah I am all about not wasting my money and doing it correctly the first time. Exactly why I'm not doing it myself! And never planned to lol. The car is complete and drivable so giving it up to someone to do the sheet metal is a tough pill to swallow. Considering the floors aren't horrible. But being that I'm always the one under it or under the carpet seeing the little problems bothers me the most. But I will do it sooner rather than later
