Default Distributor question

I have a distributor that I pulled out of an old Bronco that I bought. It's a dual point Motorcraft with the part number 12127 E. It only has mechanical advance and it was in a 302. I figure this originally came out of a Mustang. Does anyone know anything about this distributer? What kind of car it came out of? Is it worth anything?

Thanks in advance
Greg

Points are a painful technology from the 2nd millenium...it might be worth something to someone.

like 69Mach1377 said, it may be hard finding someone who would pay much for it.

The only engines I ever had ever seen the duel point dist in was the high-reving mod'ed engines. I think everyone today would want electronics for the increase in ponies and ease of maint.

I hate to admit it but my ride still has points. I'm still trying to extracate the dist from my Cleveland engine. Once I get that out, I'm changing over to a pertronix II.

73...does yours even work at all? If so, you just change the guts for now. If not, bummer dude.
Did you loosen all your rockers to relieve pressure on your camshaft? Or somehow pull the timing set off? I'm wondering how your distr. gear might be bound up to your camshaft????

Hey 69mach1377, Thanks for the tips! I didn't give enough info on the start there. I think my problem is one shared by most all Clev engines. The aluminum body of the dist becomes "one" with the block. It doesn't turn so I never have to worry about timing anymore!!! If I ever get it out in one piece, I'll try some anti-seize compound on it. Seriously, I haven't run into any drivability problems so I'm ok for now. I've just adjusted the vacuum advance to compensate for what I may think is not enough get-up-and-go!

I've heard that when a Pertronix is installed, I'll need to move the dist to adjust the timing. Soooo... I've been patiently putting penetrating oil on it and working at it to get it loose. Knowing my luck it will break off and I'll have to tear it down to get all the peices out.

That 69 Mach of yours looks & from your sig sounds like a really sweet ride!

How about rigging a puller or wedges?

Hey 69,

I've tried using a bar to try to lift up on it enough to try to rock it loose. I put one end of the bar on the front of the intake & under the head of the dist & lifted the other end. Since it's aluminum, I'm pretty cautious about too much pressure. I'm also afraid to twist on it too much it will break off.

The puller idea may work if I could get a hold of enough of the dist. I'll think about how that may work.

I even thought about using a torch on the block to try to expand it enough to get it loose. This thought left as quickly as it came. Something about an open flame way too close to the carb & fuel line!

Since it is running ok, I'm thinking I may wait till closer to the end of "cruise" weather to try in earnest to get this loose just in case I need to open it up to get the pieces out.

I really think that projects like this makes us owners appreciate their rides that much more when things are running well!

How about this idea...get engine to operating temp and shut off, gut out your distr, fill with dry ice and a little cold water. Hopefully enough contration to wedge in a very thin and sharp 'scraper' and break loose...
