How does this sound?
Yesterday I was at a car show with my 2009 Grabber Orange GT coupe (see signature) when I overheard two guys talking about a 1966 Mustang with a 6 cylinder and 3 speed. A bank had the car and one of them said they would take $3,000 for the car. I drove out to look at it with afriend who has a completly restored 1966 coupe with 5.0 and 4 speed. His car is car show winner hwere ever he goes. He thought the car was worth the $3,000. It needs a paint job as the paint is very faded with a few big scrathes. He took a magnet and checked the body. He said it was a solid body and it had almost new tires. I'm going to see if they will take $2,500 cash for it tomorrow. I think Iwould go up to $3,000 if I have to. It says it has 69,000 miles on the speedometer and on the for sale sign. What do you guys think?
any pics would really help. how much do you trust this guy? did he BUILD his car or buy it already done? does he really know what hes talking about?
oh, and for me, and for what things go for up here in NH 3k is fairly high for a 6cyl coupe. but if its in great condition with little to no rust and just needs a paint job, it very well might be worth it. just keep in mind if you ever want to put a v8 in it, it takes a lot more than just the engine..

I am an old guy and a 6 would be just fine. When I came home from Viet Nam in 1967 I bought a 1966 red Mustang coupe with 6 cylinder and a 3 speed. It was a lot of fun to drive. Two months later I traded it for a 1965 Corvette conv with a 327/365 HP with 4 spees and both tops. Then in late 1968 I traded the Corvette for a 1969 Mach I with the 351/Auto. I kept that for 7 years until the kids got too big for it. I would like to go back to that 6 cylinder 3 speed coupe. I have my 2009 GT coupe with 5 sp manual for long trips and going fast. I just want a car I can work on and take to local cruise inns.

by the sounds of it you have already made up your mind. but a car is really only worth what you are wiling to pay for it. and if the car is in as good of shape as you say, i would get it. start at 2500 though.
From my understanding of the post you drove out looking for a 66 coupe inline 6 for 3000 that the bank had but once you went out and saw it it had a 66 coupe with a 5.0?
Therefore no inline 6 coupe exists?

No the 6 cylinder coupe does exist. My friend who completly restored his 66 coupe with a 5.0 and 4 speed went with me to exam the car. He thought the car was in better shape than he expected it to be given th price. He went over the body with a magnet looking for bondo patches where the magnet would not stick. He said the body was in pretty good shape with very little rust. He also checked out the floor pans and said they were in good shape. This car, a 6 cylinder 3 speed, was repossed by the bank because someone who financed the car did not make the payments. Now the bank wants to get the car off it's books. I was told that the bank manager said he would take $3,000 for the car but it has been sitting there for awhile so I was going to offer $2,500 cash and see if he would take it. The car needs paint and the front bucket seats need to be recovered. Otherwise the interior looks pretty good. I would put new floor mats in it as well. The tires look almost new.
