Default setting a 4 corner idle mixture

Hi all,

maybe someone has a better idea.
the demon has 4 idle mixture screws and I started with all for 1.5 turns out. then started to close one which caused car to run better. so back to 1.5 and close all of them so they were 1-1/4 turns each. basically went like that and they are now all just above one turn and it seems ok, however I think it might be possible that some cylinders are running richer and some leaner.

should I leave run for 10 minutes and check sparks, or would it be a good idea to use the temperature measuring gun and try to get them to similar temperatures (as cool as possible????)

So you're back to the Double Pumper?

Unless you're having transfer problems, I don't think you need to worry too much about the idle screws. Since you have a good idle, that's all you really need from them. If the transfer from the idle circuit to the main circuit stumbled, or if you had some sort of plug fouling problem, then they would require more attention.

The plug fouling problem is probably a carry over from the point ignition days. I can't imagine that being a problem with one of todays electronic, flame thrower ignition systems.

My $0.02 and good luck,

ya, back to the double pumper since i bought the automatic choke. i'm no good for manual. always leave it on and crap ...
ah ok. i had a bit of a lean bog, but i cured that moving the ignition (initial from 12 to 16) and opening up the idle mixture screws by less than 1/8 turn each.
however when i drive in first gear (no throttle), you mow cruising for a parking space, driving as slow as you can without clutch, the car drives jerky (like someone who never drove a motorbike jumping in first gear)

i'll figure that one out as well :-)

Temp gun if you want to trim out all 4 corners to get the most even idle, but it's not necessary. And driving performance cars at real low speed leads to bucking in some cars. Nature of the beast.

well thx for the info. i'm not used to such cars *g* I was only used to stock cam, which doesn't have that problem. but it kinda makes sense. the engine is not really happy at 700 with that cam

Mine doesn't like to plod in 1st much under 1,200rpm. Accelerating it's ok, but trying to maintain cruise at real low rpm can be a pain sometimes.

1.25 seems really high for a four corner idle. Should probably be around .5-.75
Since you went from 2 to 4 corner, they need to let out half the fuel each. But it is a Demon, so it's probably lean from the get go.
(first gear in sticks are usually a little jerky with a cam. The rear end and engine are mechanically connected. Autos are much more forgiving.)
