Default Stop and go

Hey guys, sorry I havent posted in awhile. College Graduation, job search and work have been taking every minute I had.

Anyhow I was driving my 72(351c) today and had some trouble. After warming up a bit I was driving up a hill and noticed that it started to go then stop (not sure how to say it, it was like i was hitting the gas then getting off the gas). Eventually it just shut down. Luckily I was close to home. I pulled over and couldn't see any glaring problems. After about 2 minutes i started it back up and it drove home.

Some of you might remember last year i had a problem with it only running on 4 cylinders. That problem turned out to be the carb being clogged with sediment (I believe rust from the gas tank as whoever owned it before me ran it without a fuel filter). After I rebuilt the carb it ran fine.

Since then I have been running 2 small fuel filters just to clean more of the junk out. Could this problem be related to my last problems or something new?

Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks guys!

Do you have the transparent fuel filters? Are they clean or murky? Sounds to me like it's thirsty, and not getting any fuel, at least intermittently.

I agree, sounds like a fuel starvation issue. Check the fuel filter(s) and carb for debris. You may need to start thinking about a new gas tank.

Yeah one of the filters is transparent and has a nice rust red color. As soon as I have some disposable cash I'm going to get the tank and sender kit.

I also had a simular problem. My filter got clogged. I kept replacing filters until I realized there they were fine. I found a strainer under the needle seat that had gotten clogged as well.

Back in the late 70's the Fords of that era used to visit my shop a lot with that kind of problem - it was usually the filter but sometimes the fuel pump. jlg
