( rushed the first time and kicked my self for it) I saw the Frame rail splitting its about 4-5 inchs long and its located right under the battery apron. What would you do should i replace this or leave it.. I think i no what to do about it but just want a second opinion..

IMHO, not much to worry about. i could live with that. maybe brush it up with a wire brush and some rust converter to keep it from getting worse.

If you took a hammer to that, you may not like what is or isn't left.

You never know what is going to happen especially when trying to judge from a picture, but from what I see the area could benifit from some clean up and repair, but it is a long, long, way away from needing to be replaced.

Okay I will add my .02. If I could take a closer look I would definitely do so after taking a hammer to it. I say this having experienced this very problem with that area in a 68 convertible. Looked similar and I had the corner support that ties to the strut pull away from the frame while driving. That is a critical area being it holds the control arm and having it let loose isn't a pleasant experience. It's like having a gorilla yank the wheel hard right and it's scary.

I just wouldn't pooh pooh it. It's one of the first places I look at on a Mustang. That area is notorious for rusting out.
Sorry guys I would just want to be safe and check it out thoroughly.

You're only seeing the visible. This rust started on the inside which is evident due to the seam spreading. I'm not saying replace it, but you need to know more before making this choice and that starts with a pick type hammer looking for weak points and listening carefully at how solid each hammer blow is. More than a wire brush is needed here as the globs of rust between the seam have to go.

I would take a hammer and see if there is any thin spots listen to change in the tone will tap around on it.I would try to cut out the bad and just patch it.

The pointy end of a body hammer to the sides AND bottom of that rail. The inside design where the threads are is horrible and collects debris and rots out. I had the same thing and it looked like yours until I hit it with a body hammer. Its a sickening sound of the point puncturing through the metal!

The bottom on our rails were fine after I cut the sides out, removed the inside threaded brackets and cleaned them up. I then simply welded in replacement sides.. about 18" from the front back. Bought the replacement sides from NPD I believe and there and no new threaded brackets.. instead the nuts are welded to the inside of the replacement side. Took maybe a couple hours one afternoon.

NOW is the time to get this fixed correctly! This is rusting from the inside out and painting POR or whatever will not fix it.
