Default header/power steering bracket

hey guys, im looking to buy some headers for my 69, 302... but i keep reading on jegs website that i have to buy a power steering bracket... something about it composites the difference between the thickness of the exhaust manifold and the header flanges... but im looking at my engine and i dont see how the headers have anything to do with installing the power steering pump.. any ideas why they would say i need it?

Are you talking about the power ram drop bracket or is it specifically for the header to the head? You do need a drop bracket for the ram if installing long tube headers, I just replaced mine after it snapped. I don't have anything that helps with the pump though, it doesn't even mount at the header.

They're talking about this:

The Product Description sums it up pretty well.

Thanks for the quick responses that is what its for. One mere ? Reguarding headers.I have a set for a 302 but I'm not sure if they will fit my mustang. When test fit them the passenger side fits fine but the drive side, one of the tunes is touching the shock tower. Is that normal for headers or does that mean its the wrong size for my car?

If the headers are touching the shock towers on either side they are not made for the car, they may be for a different year or foxbody as they don't have shocktowers. There are a couple of header manuf. that make models for our cars that fit without a PS drop bracket. I can tell you that MAC headers made for our cars fit without using a drop bracket, that was one selling point when I bought mine. There are a couple other manuf. that make them but MAC was the only one <$400 if I recall, the MACS are <$200.

I have seen too many reports of the drop bracket tearing out of the frame which can cause loss of steering when it happens. Most weld the bracket to the frame if you must use one for your headers to fit.
