Engine stalls
I have a 1965 289 2bl V8 engine that will stall out after starting. It starts fine and will only stay running if I pump the accelerator when it starts to die. I have taken the carburetor to a shop and had it serviced. I have drained the fuel lines and replaced fuel filter and cleaned the gas tank. The mechanical fuel pump works fine. The mechanic seemed to think it was bad fuel but I am now drawing clean fuel and it still will not run properly. It seems that it is not getting the proper air/fuel mixture. Any thoughts?
if you pump the accellerator and it keeps running then I'd say it's not getting any fuel (or too little) while idling. Have you tried opening the mixture screws or increase curb idle on the carburetor?
