Default Remind me

It's been a while since I've done one but I need to replace my water pump.

Which RTV is best to use for this? Black, red, etc...

Second...am I correctly assuming I should put some on the pump side of the gasket but not on the block side?

I use Permatex Black Magic. Seems to work the best.

I put it on the front cover surface and then stick the gasket to to it. The sealant acts like glue while I position the water pump. I don't put sealant on both sides.
