351w maybe 350hp (and growing)
TKO 600: 1st 2.87 and OD .82

It'll run, but don't expect great off-the-line performance. Also, 5th may only be useful at higher freeway speeds.

If you can get the deal, get it. Live with the crappy gearing until you can save up for some lower gears.

Are you sure it's the 0.82 o/d and not the 0.64? If it's the 0.64 with a 3.00 it's gonna be TALL on the highway. Off the line won't be too bad, I had a Toploader that was 2.89 iirc with a 3.00 gear and it wasn't too bad. The TKO 600 I have now and 3.55's is better though.

Make sure you check the service tag on it to be certain it's a TKO 600 and not an older TKO/TKOII or 3550, since they all use the same case.

67 mustang: im sure, the seller double checked for me. The tranny is from americanpowertrain.com still in the box, and they sell both.

Starfury: the guy at APT recommended a 3.50 rear end, what do you guys think. Like i said id like to have some good power in 1-4 with a nice 5th gear for cruising

I have a ford factory T5 with .68 over drive. With the 3.90 gears in my 66, I cruise at 2500rpm at 70 mph. With the C4 that I used to have, 55mph was 3100rpms.

if you were to get it, I would suggest going to lower gears 3.55- 3.73 for good fuel economy, and 3.90 - 4.11 for fun times. With my current T5 and gear setup, I average about 18mpg. which is really good with from an engine with 11.1 compression ratio and a hot cam.

If your not going to go after that TKO, can you please pass the info along to me?

I think the FMX 1st gear ratio is 2.49, but depending on your converter's stall, it may be a wash.
