Default c4 auto gears?

I believe that I am supposed to drive the mustang with the gear shift at the green dot with a larger white circle around it. But what is the "dot" right before it? (after Neutral). It's not a low gear since the last gear is "L" for Low.
What driving situations would I use the 3 different driving gears for?

Are you putting me on?

The bottom is locked into 1st

the green dot avoids first and starts in 2nd and then to 3rd (I guess it could be used as torque management for slippy surfaces (Thats what she said) )

and finally the thing above the green dot is drive works like you would think 1, 2, 3 (assuming the modulator isnt snafu)

So normal driving would be the single dot? using all the gears? Not the green dot with the circle around it?
I've seen other pot that mention it was the other way around.....
forgive me, I wasn't taught the dot, green dot, L shifting method.I have no idea what dot and green dot mean on a transmission. Maybe I should get the owners manual<grin>

Im 95% sure the green dot is not drive. The Green dot skips 1st gear.

Normal driving is the dot right after N

It goes park, R, N, D, Green dot, 1

I dont think its been that long since my c4 days.

That's what I originally thought, but I had my transmission rebuilt and had a new torque converter put in. After that I had incredible power and can make the tires spin in the first dot with just a little gas from a dead stop.. (a lot of power for my little I6 (450 rpm @ idle)) Way more take-off strength than what it originally had before the rebuild, maybe 2-3 times the power. So I questioned if I was using the right gear for normal driving.
I checked here and the first message I read in the search said the dot with the circle was the driving gear. I tried it and it seemed like what I would expect my little engine should be starting out at. It made sense to me....but I questioned the gear shift position....so I asked.
but if the car is supposed to be in that gear and have that much starting power, I may have to reconsider letting my son borrow it from now on....or convince him to stay in that other gear

It certainly wont hurt anything.

I think maybe I used the green dot one or twice on some uphill gravel driveways
