Default Water proofing w/ Jig a Loo

hey guys i live in Minnesota and winter here is like half a year lol so i wanted to try and keep my 67 coupe from rusting. tell me if my course of action seems fine:

1. take car to manual car wash
2. wash underneath car really good
3. wash engine/engine compartment
4. let dry spray on a nice coat of rust-oleum on the bottom
5. spray on a coat of Jig-A-Loo on bottom, rims, bumpers, and bottom half of car.

~i know i have to remove battery/cover electrical systems when washing the engine compartment and cover the carb.

*do you guys think it would look nicer to fake chrome my carb cover which is a dull blue color now, i was going to buy that chrome spray which matches real chrome nicely.

i hear you can coat the bottom with pickup truck bed liner but it can be quiet pricey. or is it?

Why would you take a nice classic into the salt? You'll ruin it in no time. That 40 year old paint won't protect it.
Sell it and get a more modern car that has much better rust protection and fresher paint.

That said, undercoating just hides the rust and makes it rust faster. Rustoleum is probably good though, it has rust inhibiter.
Best to wash the underside of the car after running it in the salt.
Squirting some motor oil inside the doors and places you can't wash is a trick my dad used.

I'd use POR15 on the bottom or something like it. Eastwood sells several rust inhibitor products. Inside the doors, rockers etc I'd be using body wax, Eastwood sells that as well.

Speaking of old school rust-proofing I had a '70 Mach1 that was owned in MI its whole life. It had never been restored when I bought it yet had no rust anywhere. I noticed the entire bottom was shiny like it was oiled & when I asked some older guys at a car show a couple of them thought it may be boiled linseed oil. Boiled linseed oil dries (cures) so it doesn't attract dirt like most oils.

I've never had any luck finding information on the idea.

I would buy a cheap beater for the winter time.Besides the salt how many wrecks you see in snow i wouldn't risk my car rusting or getting totaled.

your kidding....

i didnt spend 6 months and 3000 bucks on a car that im going to sell after a week.

im having it painted so its not 40 yr old paint.....
anyway im probably going to do full resto once it starts rusting real bad. i just dont have the money, space, equipment, knowledge to do it yet.

i barely drive too, drive like 10 mins a day lol no highways.

i plan on washing it really good once a week or so.

Why not spend like 500 for a cheap beater to drive in the winter time.Salt is only half the problem how many wrecks you have seen in snow ?
