Hi all,
In another post I asked a dumb question. My real question is can a 2 valve 289 C code be made into a 4 valve motor? Also is the 4 valve 289 the A code or K code? What is the difference other than more horse power?

Walt, I think you mean is can a 2 venturi carburated C code engine be made into a 4 venturi carbureted engine. The answer is yes. You have to change the 2 venturi intake manifold to a 4 venturi manifold and add a 4 venturi (barrel) carburetor. The biggest difference between the C code engine and the A code is primarily the 4 barrel carburetor with a 4 barrel intake. The K code gets into the internal parts of the engine with several upgrades.

V=venturi now I get it. I thought that 4V was 4 valve. [sm=lol.gif] Now I'm not so confused as to make my 289 a A code. What did they do on the Ks to get more HP? Higher compression pistons and cam?

K code = solid lifters, cam, intake?, head work to support the solid lifter cam., hipo manifolds

4 valves per cylinder is a relatively recent development for production cars...beginning in the 90s IIRC.
