Question Center Console a Standard or Extra

Was a console standard or an accessory for the 68 convertible?

I believe it was a accessory on all cars.

I have seen them with out a console before don't know if it was built with out one tho.The days of the mustang you could order any car almost anyway you wanted just had to wait for it to be built.Car companies loved it they got pre paid for a car they haven't made yet.

Mine didn't have a console in it when I bought it and I sort of like it that way...just a personal opinion.

But when we replaced my floor pans and carpet we found evidence to suggest the car had a console at some point in the past.

Only reason I've considered adding one is now and then a cup holder would be nice.

There were many American cars with available options prior to the Mustangs. Just a quick for instance, the baby birds (55-57 t-birds) had a decent list of options

as did the early corvettes. I am sure there are even earlier examples but those were the first ones I thought of. I was thinking maybe the Mustang was the first to have a large amount of options but the 57 chevy had a pretty impressive list.

Consoles were an option on all 65-73 Mustangs. None of them had cup holders
from Ford. Only the aftermarket consoles had cupholders.

Options on American cars back in the 1950s & 60s were power steering, power brakes, auto-trans, a/c, pwr windows, but those "high-tech" options were expensive so many cars didn't have them.
