3G Alt Conversion (75% Done!)
Last night I got about 75% of the way done with the 3G alt conversion.
So far I've....
Wrapped the 3G harness is wire loom and heat shrinked the ends. Tech flex covered the "I" wire running through the front radiator support to the driver's side.
Terminated the 3G harness on the main alt post.
Made new 1/0 AWG positive charging cables for the alternator. These are all tech flex covered red cables. Looks awesome.
Installed a 250 amp ANL fuseholder and fuse.
Made new 4 AWG Positive wire to starter solenoid. Also tech flex covered.
What I've got left....
Terminate the 3G "I" wire into the original voltage regulator harness. Will be tech flexed to the solder joint and then shrink wrapped.
Make new 1/0 ground wires for big 3 upgrade. This will consist of new wires connecting battery to engine block, battery to chassis, and chassis to engine block. I might even use one of the spare bolt holes on the back of the alt for a ground as well.
I've got to say this upgrade has been very simple so far. The 3g fits on the same brackets and only requres a change in the bottom bolt and nut for tension adjustment.
It may seem a little overkill to use 1/0 instead of 4 awg or 2 awg for the charging cables and the grounds, but less resistance in the electrical system means more power and more effecient 12V delivery.
I'll take some pics when I get home tonight. I never thought it would be this simple to install a 130 amp alt that is readily available at auto parts stores in my mustang.
This will also support my future stereo build with suffecient power...

Here are some picks of the progress.
I got the positive side done last night.

Close up the modified taurus wiring harness.

250 amp ANL fuse and holder.

Close up of cable termination and wrap.

Finished Product

Close up of negative terminal

Close up of positive terminal

I still need to add the amp power cable to the positive terminal but will do that before I install the interior.
Also going to put a little mor eheat shrink on the 4 awg positive wire that is showing some red...
I left the cables a little long so that I can change orientation of the battery if desired and keep the existing cables.
