Default What Primer to use?

Ok, so I've decided for sure to go with epoxy primer, but what brand? Please post what you've used on your mustang!!!

Dupont DTM Zinc Chromate Epoxy 2580CR, right around $200 a gallon plus activator right around $180. I believe its been discontinued. Not sure what replaced it.

I've used this primer for years in marine applications, lots of salt water, never having corrosion issues.

We've used ppg omni on the bottom, which we will then use U-pol Raptor as the final coat.

We will be using SPI on the rest of the body...

Dupont sells a similar product in their Nason line that seems good to me for about 1/2 that price. I use that stuff on my trailer projects.

I have bought the 2580 within the last 2 years, I think I still have 1/2 gallon or so.

Default - - - OMNI - - -

Why not OMNI? I think it is the cheaper line made by PPG. I back it with the argument that the industry is so competitive that a crappy product would not survive, yet OMNI marches on. Just read the spec sheets and make sure your build primer and or paint will mate with it. Buy a quart and a pint of activator and spray a sample piece and see how you like it, maybe let it sit for a week and try to sand it or what ever, if you don't dig it, go spend three times as much on something else.

Here it is in action: https://mustangforums.com/forum/clas...ed-roof-6.html

Omni is good, of course Omni is PPG's budget line similar to DuPont's Nason.

In my experience, most any "good" product is interchangable among different brands so long as it is sanded to a good tooth for mechanical adhesion

I don't agree with this comment. I don't think anyone would say that Omni is crap, its just not the best. Using your same logic, if Omni was as good as the best there wouldn't be any higher priced products left of the market.

Same goes for the results, what some people consider acceptable others will consider crap. There how many threads about getting a "decent" paint job using spray cans?

For me, unfortunately my skills don't match up with the quality of the product I'm using

I've used many but I'll vote for SPI. If you haven't tried it, you don't know what you are missing out on. It's cheap, the guys on the phone are great and it's an overall fantastic product.
