Default AC/Heat system?

So I'm starting to work on my 65 Fastback after a long hiatus....i dont have my original Heater or ac parts. im thinking about going with one of the combo boxes that heat and cools..which is the best?

ive looked the at the Classic Auto Air kit: 1965 MUSTANG ?Classic Air? HiPo A/C HEATER SYSTEM 65 AC: eBay Motors (item 400138493580 end time Oct-20-10 15:18:09 PDT)

will this use my factory holes in firewall for the ac lines and heater hoses is there a better kit out there if this is te best is there somewhere i can find it cheaper than 1321.65 shipped??

We installed a Vintage Air setup in ours and it fits the original holes. Only additional hole I had to drill was down through the top of the toe board for the drainage hose. Classic Auto Air requires the same thing. Both are about the same costs ranging from 1000 to 1400 depending on the seller and options. Either will do you well, installation is pretty much the same for each.

ive heard some stories about the vintage air setup...but then ive heard good things too so i dunno if its the best kit to go with..glad its working great for you i dont know how important an AC system is to someone int he north east but down here in GA its paramount to have icy air :P its 77degrees right now in mid oct and dont even ask about the humid summers here

South Jersey (soon to be Delaware) isn't as bad as GA but its pretty damned hot and humid in the summers. Spring and early fall can be fairly hot also. To myself A/C is a nice thing however to the wife its essential.

I've heard good and bad regarding both which is nothing new. All products will have good and bad stories. Every manufacturer will have the occasional faulty part.. nothing is perfect 100% of the time. I've seen both kits and I'm sure you'd be happy with either.

I have a vintage air kit in my mustang and my step dad has a older one in his 55 chevy. Both the ac will freeze you but both are r12 which is colder then 134a but cost a lot more.Only real problem i seen with vintage air is there kit for the 78/79 bronco has a under sized blower in it won't cool the back of the truck good.Classic auto air is pretty much the same as vintage air your not paying more for the name tho.

The only really "bad" thing I can say about either of them, is how they decided to cover the cowl vent under the passenger side. The just have a plastic lid that mounts, so mine is nice and rusty because it just let water and debris sit in there without a way to drain it. I'm actually considering going to the original heater setup only, anyone know where i could get the heater box and original components?
