Default Ballpark value of a 67 convertible????

The market is depressed, this much I know, but a 67 all original, low option, 289, 3 spd in decent shape would go for???
It's an East Coast car, haven't looked at it, was restored some time ago, one owner. Has been sitting for about 5 years.

What's a fair price with those things and no surprises hidden?

Well as I'm sure you know, without picures your going to get a wide range. I've seen them go anywhere from $7k - $30k based on condition. In general $11-$13k will get you a solid vert in need of light resto in the northeast.

mmm even with those pics it still depends, did you see the car in person? Try to get a good look underneath, pictures can be deceiving. Even a decent looking car can come with a whole lot of surprises...

Going to look tomorrow and having owned a 68 drop top a long time ago I know that there are soooooooooo many things that can rot underneath.
The good thing is it's 10 mins away and my wife's cousin lives a block away. I have driven past it and it didn't ring a bell when I first saw it was for sale.

We'll see.

Well I spent 2 hours with the owner and found out that the car is indeed a one owner car that was "restored" in 95.
The door tag makes it:
Warranty Number: 7T03C219519

Year: 7 1967
Plant: T Metuchen, NJ
Body Series: 03 Convertible
Engine: C 289 2v V8
Unit: 219519 219519

Miscellaneous Vehicle Data

Body: 76A Convertible, Standard Interior
Color: Q Brittany Blue Metallic
Trim: 2B Lt. Blue Crinkle Vinyl and Dk. Blue Crinkle Vinyl, Standard Interior
Date:
D.S.O: 27C Cincinnati (Special Order Unit C)
Axle: 1 3.00:1, Conventional
Trans: 6 code not found
It has a 3 speed manual
Pics:

Paint is showing it's age, but is presentable

289 replaced 10,000 miles ago. Started on the first turn with a jump. No knocks and the valve taps disappeared after second start.

Some rot in the trunk

Pans were replaced in 95, but have some rust. Driver's side outside corner is the worst, which is typical.

Driver's side frame rail. Not too bad

Passenger side... not so good.

Is this the frame rail and apron gone???

The brakes are gone, whether the lines have rotted or the cylinders leak. In either case that All has to be replaced. The rear window needs replacing. The top is okay, but it's showing it's age.

Good oil pressure, clutch works smoothly.
Interior is complete and in decent shape. Some quarter panel and fender rust, but nothing huge.
Manual steering, manual brakes, standard wheel covers.

Oh and the top pump is either just low or leaking. It went down, but wouldn't go back up without a lot of help and you could hear the fluid.

Soooooooo. He is asking $11,800. My gut tells me about $7-10K is the ballpark I would like to be in and that even seems high. What comes to mind???

Yikes, you're talking new trunk floor, probably new floor pans, new front frame rails, etc... you and I both know there is without a doubt more surprises than what you can see in those pics and probably what you could see in person... Offer him 6 and offend him. It's a buyers market and that thing needs a total makeover... just my opinion of course...

Yep, you are dead on. That section under the battery box is notorious for the rust I saw. Luckily the rear frame rails were in decent shape, aside from the trunk floor.

It's a shame it has been sitting for 5 years at least under a car cover and slowly wasting away.

I am willing to take this on, but only at the right price.

That is a shame. Based on some of the rust/rot issues the "restoration in 95' " prob did not get into all areas that needed attention. That front clip couldn't have been a grade A even back then to be in the shape its in now. Either way its a shame they didnt do a better job preserving the original steel.

Based on the condition of the body and fact that its a vert with a nice original engine/trans setup I'd pay $7-8k for it. Yes it needs some work, but in great condition that cars worth quite a few bucks. Hell if you dont want it, I'll buy it for the wife (she cant drive my 5 speed without me buying new tires and a tranny every 500 miles).
