Inspection Checklist
I posted these pics earlier about a 69 FB that is a family members. I would like to get a checklist of places to check for significant rust issues. As seen in the pics, it has some rust issues on the lower quarters and trunk fender wells.
I would like to have some suggestions about particular places to look that might be problem areas.
I plan on crawling under the car to get a sense of how bad the floor pans are. One area I'm not sure how to check is around the firewall?
Thanks for the help.

Yes, trunk drop offs, bottom corner of the doors and rear corner of the front fenders near door are common rust areas as the drain holes get clogged and water sits. I haven't seen issues with the firewall normally as it's vertical but the cowl area is usually a bad spot. Take a bright flashlight in a dark garage and shine it in the vent slits between the rear of the hood and windshield, look towards each corner.
There are air inlet holes that rust out when the drain holes at the corners clog, you can see the drains when you remove the fenders. When the holes clog and the water sits the bottom of the pan rusts out and if any water goes through those hood vents it pours down on your feet (car washing or rain). This leads to the floor pans rusting out under your feet as the carpet/padding gets soaked and holds the water on the flooring. You can poke your finger in the access holes below the seat bolts and pull scales of rust out normally or if you have access pull the carpets back on the front floorboards, it's a two piece pan with space between.
Inside the fender wells F/R where where water sprays while driving may rust out also, the underside lip of the trunk usually goes too due to water sitting there after a rain.
