Default Good Carb?

so my carb is running like crap, doesnt open when warm and fast idle is a pain.
if i dont get this fixed im going to look into a new carb.

so here what i have:
67 289 v8
currently an autolite 2100
have rebuilt the insides, im not too good at adjusting. the 2100 has awkward placement of fast idle screw, its behind the black mixture "****" even with the cover off you cant see crap without a mirror.

also the whole engine is stock, not planning on changing that.
ive read that 500cfm should be plenty for a stock 289. just not sure what brand and where to buy from.

best if the carb doesnt cost more then 250, refurbished is fine.

My recommendation since you don't have big plans for the engine:

Probably can find it cheaper from a website or something. Check ebay too.

It is a 2bbl carb, 2100 is an excellent carb, try to find an "old school" kind of shop to get it tuned and or rebuilt as needed, should be affordable enough.

when the choke doesn't open you probably are missing the heat riser. send picture of carb passenger side. and yes, the 2100 is an excellent carb. had one of them for 2 years on mine. when you have trouble with the choke, then disable it (turning it fully lean) so you have problems cold, but none warm (that's the preferred way around). Once you fix the choke you'll have a good carb

The stock carb is reliable.
I've run them for years.
Just have to tune in the idle mix screw once.
I used to fight w/ the less reliable auto choke.
Got lazy and adjusted choke wide open.
Takes few minutes to warm up on cold day but then is perfect.

You should go with the Autolite 4100 480 CFM that is the correct cab for your 289. Factory 225 HP, an the 271 HP came stock with can't go wrong with that

Heat riser are the two tubes that are on each aide correct? Both are connected although my passenger side one does smoke a bit if I drive for a bit but only after I turn it off.

If the engine is stock then no tuning is needed, the stock carb is pre-calibrated for a stock engine.

If it's a 2bbl intake rebuild/replace it with another 2bbl. Otherwise put a decent 4bbl intake on and use a stock 4bbl =)
