I am redoing the interior of my car, and I want to do it right the first time. I already ordered the carpet underlayment and carpet. Is it is overkill to invest in sound deadener such as R-Blox or Dynamat as well. Would I get a noticeable difference with the sound deadener?

Any thoughts would be great.

I did my truck a couple of months ago with lizard skin and the factory carpet/sound deaden its quieter now.Look at http://www.lizardskin.com/lizard_skin/street_rods.php

 

I don't think so I want to do it.

I installed the reflective insulation/sound deadener similar to dynomat and carpet over that but I want to get the rubber underlayment. I ribbed off all the insulation crap on the carpet itself since it had absorbed water and didn't want any rust problems.

I was going to get that carpet underlayment kit from cj pony parts

 

i can't personally say that you will or will not notice a difference in real situations. however adding mass to a panel does make it sound more solid.

here is a before and after install of the typical sound deadener that weighs about 0.5 lb/ft^2.

not a scientific experiment but an example of the change.

i'm simply tapping across the center part of the roof on a 69 mustang fastback.

Did not use underlayment on my carbut used sound deadener. Made quite a bit difference from makingit solid standpoint - especailly in doors - sound solid when you shut them.

 

I did a rubberized spray on along with fat mat. it made a really big difference

 

With a DD, the more the merrier, especially if you have some loud exhaust. I'd get all I could under the carpet as long as it fits well.

 

you'd be mad to not do it. I am doing my interior at some stage as well. will rip all out and sound deadener (like dynomat in there). James here on the forum has done it and posted on youtube, let me see if I can find it. Buddy of mine did it in his chevelle. He added some in the doors as well and boy it makes a difference on how the door sounds when you're closing it. from a shattering clank to a nice thud.

 

On my son's truck, we made a homemade version of Lizard skin by mixing the microspheres with a latex paint and applying two thick coats.



Then covered it in eDead and with carpet. This truck is surprisingly quiet now.

 

nice ... it's an utter blx here in Ireland. I have to check what the 'audiophile' people use here. all the eDead, dynamat etc cost an arm an a leg over here.
I checked around a year ago and was about to settle for roof tar and tin foil :-)
