Should steering components be painted after cleaning?
Hi all,
I am in the process of replacing steering components and old rubber bushings. After taking out the strut rods and anti-sway bar and cleaning them I was wonderin if I should paint them? If so what color would be correct? I also have new tie rod ends that are bare metal. Should all of this stuff get a coat of paint?
Thanks, Walt

Hey Walt... I would paint everything that you pull, clean and replace. As for color choices.. I would stick with black. Not flat or glossy...maybe a semi or satin for alittle sheen. Tape off all rubber pieces. Make sure the piece is cleaned properly and prime first. Use a good quality paint too. Stay away from cheap crap like Wal mart paint or any paint that's $.99 a can. A real good paint to use and it's not cheap is Testors car model paint. Applies thick and smooth, but does take a few days to dry properly, unless you bake them at 200 degrees for 10min in your kitchen oven. BEWARE...it will stink the house up but the finish will be baked on and awesome looking. I have a buddy that has a small toaster oven in his garage just for baking paint on small pieces. Good luck
