Default getting a track car need help

Ok here is the deal, im selling my 09 mustang (v6) and getting a 88 regal with a 383 stroker, now this may be a stupid question but i just need to know. The 383 is carburated but it does not have an air filter on from what i can see. will this affect the performance of the car? i have heard dirt and dust and other crap can get into the engine if there is no air filter on. WIll the engine suffer from this? and is it ok to run it without the af? Sorry to put this in the 05-11 section but i didnt know where else to put it and i really need the advice!!!!

Never run an engine without an air filter of some type. Asking for trouble. Sure drag racers do it, but they are rebuilding motors all the time. If you want it to last then run a filter.
