I was just reading a post on another forum, this guy wanted to swap an auto for a manual tranny. one of the guys said that he had the stock c4 automatic and that he would put it in first floor it, put it in 2nd while flooring it, and then to drive.
i cant believe that this can be good for the transmission. is it?
Like using a B&M ratchet shifter. Put the car in L or 1st, then shift to 2nd, and then finally to D. I do it in the 4runner I drive and my dad does it in his old truck.
While manually shifting a C4 is not bad for it doing so under full throttle with added power over a stock engine may cause a shorter life for a stock C4. A properly built C4 can easily handle a couple of seasons drag racing every week behind a 600 hp big block. I've been building them for years.
Mine is 16 years old, has over 230K miles, leaks oil, water, and PS fluid. Also has a vibration problem, a solenoid in the transmission is going bad, and I get 12 mpg.
I had the ratchet shifter for mine...I would always pull it down into 2nd when passing...floor it then shift into 3rd while still under full power...never seemed to be an issue at all...
